The Sadarghat, also called the “live and vibrant river port of Old Dhaka” is a place where history lives. Located on the banks of the Buriganga River, this bustling town has been an important part of the city’s identity for centuries. It was once a major trading hub in Asia and people from all over would come to trade their goods here. Nowadays it’s still very much alive with activity- fishing boats coming offloading their catch, women washing clothes in the river that they’ll use to sell at market, kids playing cricket on dirt roads – but its primary function now is as a transit point for government services like social security payments and pensions.
